Hi everyone, my name is Jessica Shi. I am a junior(feel so old…) majoring in material science and nanoE and working on a minor in French studies. I’m a proud Will Ricer. At Rice, I work part-time as a rope adventure trip leader where I lead outdoor trips such as backpacking and kayaking. They are really really fun, and a great way to meet new people because use of technology(phones) is not encouraged (actually not allowed according to the actual policy), so you are just “forced” to talk and talk and talk.
One thing I built that I’m proud of is my L-shaped desk. I didn’t design it but I built it from scratch. As you can see there are multiple drawers, cabinets and side shelves. It was not complicated work but hard work.

I am excited to make the crate this semester as it is something that i can use right away. I hope to learn how to operate most of the equipment in OEDK, especially the 3-d printers. These tools and softwares are not part of the curriculum for material science at rice so i think this class is a great opportunity for me to learn them.
