Hello! This is Mandy

Hello everyone! My name is Runmei (Mandy) Li, and I’m a sophomore at Will Rice College majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Engineering Design. As an international student from China, I’ve been actively involved with the Chinese Student & Scholars Association for the past year and recently joined the International Student Association as an event coordinator. I’m also about to begin working as a student assistant in CCD and will likely continue serving as a grader for MATH 212.

I enjoy creating things from scratch, whether it’s small metal decorations or mechanical parts I designed during my internship this past summer. One of my proudest projects is a 3D-printed model of the space station my high school team designed for the International Space Settlement Design Competition. It represented our team’s collective effort and creativity, and we were honored to present it at a UNESCO conference in Beijing.

Something I’ve always wanted to build is a sustainable greenhouse for vegetable and tea production. I’m especially passionate about agricultural technologies, with a focus on hydroponic farming. I already have some rough ideas for a greenhouse system and hope to bring them to life in a smaller functional prototype. I’m excited to develop the skills in this class that will help me achieve that goal and further explore the potential of agricultural technology as a future mechanical engineer. In particular, I hope to gain the ability to design and build complex structures from the ground up. Can’t wait to start a new journey in OEDK!
