This was my first time sewing a project together, so I was both very excited and a little nervous about starting out. I originally set off with a plan to make some felt hearts, but I later decided it would be fun to make a little friend by adding pipe cleaners.
It took me a few tries to incorporate the decorative blanket stitching, but I became more confident as I put in more practice. Marking out the proper spacing with a tape measure was a helpful tip I relied on to create neat stitches. The most difficult part was putting together the pipe cleaner body with the felt hearts. In the end, I created loops in the body with an additional pipe cleaner to secure the wings.
This project was a neat way to spend an afternoon making a little friend. It was also a good opportunity to practice hand-eye coordination while learning a handy skill. In the future, I look forward to practicing my sewing with different types of fabric. I’d like to eventually be able to tailor and maybe even design my own clothing.
