For this assignments, I hand sewed a couple of hearts. My first attempt did not turn out great but I fell in love with the process so I went to Michaels to get some materials for my myself so that I can use both for this project and future projects for my own interest.
In class, Prof.Bisesti drew me an illustration of sew line and cut line of a heart on paper.
I cut out a piece of fabric and some thread and take it home to work on. I first drew the half heart on paper and cut it out, then use the paper heart to help cut out the fabric.
I embroidered a “J” on one side of my heart.
I started sewing with the two insides facing out so that I can flip it in the end and have the denim side facing out. The sew line looks great, but…
This is what it looks like when I flipped it in the end, you can’t really tell thats a heart right…
I only cut out a small piece of fabric from the OEDK, and I don’t feel like wasting more because other people probably want that fabric too. I did enjoy sewing very much so I decided to go to Michaels to get some supplies. I ended up getting a yard of red felt fabric, some embroidery thread and needles, for the purpose that I will use them in my spare time in the future.
So here we go again,
cutting out hearts
This time instead of sewing from the back and flip it, I decided to do backstitches. I cut off the redundant sides upon finishing to give it a better finish, and here is my first heart.
I forgot to put my initial J on the first one so I wanted to do another one with it becuase I have so much fabric now anyways. So I put a J on one side and tried sewing it with a different technique. I dont know what it is called but it is just simply putting the two fabric together vertically. I cut scrap fabric into very small pieces as the fillers of my hearts. This is what it looks like in the end.
