Hand Sewing Homework: Hello Snoopy!!!

For this assignment, I decided to make a Snoopy stuffed plushie. The idea came from the theme I choose for another project in my EDES 355 class and a tutorial I found in YouTube, it uses a sock you no longer use, making it more eco-friendlyย ๐Ÿ˜Ž. You can find the tutorial in this link:ย https://youtu.be/xWDzhA26DhM?si=z_hfaIIv1yecvC5Tย ย

For this project I used a sock, black fabric (which I found in the scraps of the ENGI 210 table), white thread, black embroidery (I only found brown ๐Ÿฅบ) and normal thread, scissors, stuffing, a sewing needle and pins.

This is my initial working table and materials:

Me at my apartment ๐Ÿ™‚

My schedule didn’t permit me to stay in a table to complete my project, so I put my materials in a small bag in order to complete it through the day.

I first started my cutting one sock in half, stuffing it, and sewing it to make the head.

I then used the black fabric to draw and sew Snoopy’s ears and nose and sowed it to the head! I don’t know why this part took so long!!!

Me at a Nat Sci event! ๐Ÿ™‚

I then used the other sock to make the body, arms, and legs and sewed them together. This picture reminds me of Thing fromย  Wednesday (the girl, not the day) and I scared my friends with it.๐Ÿ˜ˆ I also had to embroider all of the fingers and toes of his paws Thank you PSYC101 for your hour of work.

Me back at home ๐Ÿ™‚

Me in ELEC 303 class (before class ๐Ÿ™ˆ) ๐Ÿ™‚

I now had the head and body completed to sew them together, looks even scarier >:).

Me in the OEDK EDES 210 table ๐Ÿ™‚

For final details, I used a threading string and pins to plan a beautiful smile for Snoopy and embroidered it. This was the best part

Me back at home! ๐Ÿ™‚

Snoopy is now finally done! I used a red fabric I found to give him a pretty scarf ๐Ÿ™‚ I want to make him new outfits in the future. <3

Say hi to Snoopy!

There was no more sock to make the tail, the tutorial also didn’t include one ๐Ÿ™ sorry… but look at him! He looks so cute! And you can see that my final “working space” is clean and I put away all of my left over material.

I didn’t have a lot of experience sewing, but I wanted to push myself to practice this skill and make something really cute. The hardest part was putting the head and body together since it would continuously slip down in the process, but the best part was embroidering its beautiful smile! Snoopy had a big journey in the path of making him, he saw my room, all of my classes, and even my lunch spot. I think he had fun ๐Ÿ™‚ This was a really fun project, and even though it took long to make, it was really rewarding to practice my sewing skills. 10/10, would recommend.

Snoopy was technically free for me to make, but if I had to buy all of my materials

Cost of Production:

Sock: free – $2

Black fabric(1 sqft): $1

Normal white thread: ~50ยข

Normal black thread: ~50ยข

Embroidery black thread: ~50ยข

Polyester stuffing: $5

Needle: 10ยข

Pins: 50ยข

This comes to $10.10 in materials cost (not considering scissors, pen, or paper clips since those are reusable and wouldn’t make sense to consider in cost of producing one item)

Using the Texas minimum wage of $7.25 and considering that this project took me around 8 continuous hours of work (considering actual working time and not me moving around campus), it would come to $58. (But we don’t live in a perfect world so I would probably be underpaid for this and get like $5 in a good day.)

Continuing in the perfect world, the cost of my Snoopy would be of $68.10, but in the beautiful world of Rice it was free!!! Thank you EDES 210 <3
