While this was technically not the first time I had ever hand-sewn before, it had been quite a while. The last time I had done something like this was in 6th grade, where, funny enough, I also had to make a pillow. Through this experience, it was quite clear that I didn’t hold onto any of these previous skills. However, through much trial and error, I ended up with something I could say I was proud of, and I feel that, given more practice, I can be comfortable with sewing for future projects, maybe even just for fun.

the outline and felt I used for my project.
I decided to go with this nice red felt, both because I felt (no pun intended) it was fitting for a heart design and the felt was nice and soft to the touch. After cutting out the outline, I began to sew together the heart using a back stich so that I could ensure the sewing held.
After flipping the heart inside out, I noticed the the stitching at the top of the heart had been slightly screwed up, leaving a small hole in the top. This is when I added the final touch to the heart, killing two birds with one stone. By attaching a little ribbon to the top of the heart, I could both close the hole and let the pillow hang.

Heart shape flipped inside out, pre filling.
Overall, the experience was very fun, though it did teach me that I need to work on my patience. Sew takes time and a lot of planning to look its best, and if I could do this project over again, I would have spent a lot more time on it. It took around 2 hours for me to finish, and was a great way to spend rainy Sunday.

The final product, ribbon and all.
