


The cost analysis for this project is much less complicated than the previous homework, as the only material was a piece of 1/8″ thick pine. I would estimate the cost of this wood to be approximately $25, although the OEDK does subsidize materials for OEDK teams, so this project would most likely be a bit cheaper. The laser cutter itself ranges from $2500 to $13,000; however, this is a shared resource, so I will not consider this in the total cost. The project itself took approximately 4 hours, one hour of designing the box and etching, and 3 hours of testing and cutting the pieces. According to the MIT Living Wage Calculator, the living wage in Texas is $21.82/hr, which would equal $87.28 of labor, and $25 + $87.28 = $112.28 in total. If we go by the legal Texas minimum wage, $7.25/hr, which equals $29, and $29 + $25 = $54 in total.
