Lizzy’s Little “Impossible” Pet Zoo

I love 3D printing!

For this assignment, I decided to make little “impossible” articulated animals to make my little zoo using FDM and SLA.

For the FDM prints I downloaded my files from Thingiverse and imported them to the Bamboo software. I then put them close together in an attempt to decrease the nozzle movement and by that printing time and uniformly decreased the size of the shapes to a longitude of 52mm to fit the capsule. I then put tree supports and sliced it to put it to print.

After printing was done i took away the supports and wet a sanding sheet to post process any imperfections.
Look at them, they are so cute!
I then did my SLA printing!
I imported my piece in the PreForm software, scaled it uniformly to a longitude of 52mm, auto oriented it and auto generated supports.
I then sliced it and put it to print.
Two hours later i put it to wash for 20 minutes and then put it in the curer for 30 minutes at 60°.
When it was done i cut the supports and used a sanding sheet to take out all imperfections.
Finally, I put them in their little homes and I was done!
Cost Analysis:
Printing Cost (FDM)               $6 by slicing software estimator
Printing Cost (SLA)                $1.80 from searches of average cost in Google
120 grade sanding paper        $0.60 cents
Cutting curved pliers               $1.95
Cost of Labor                             $7.50/hr * 1 hour = $7.50

Total                                            $17.85
