Blue Fingers

In this project, I mold and cast my fingers. It is my first time doing molding and casting. It is really fun to learn about this technique. I mold and cast my fingers during the class period by following the instructions: mixing 1.5oz of alginate with 6.75oz of water, and using 70g of Rocktite and 20g of water to cast two fingers. Then I come back 2 days later to take it out.
We can see that the finger is already pretty good. However, there are still some minor flaws on the sides of the fingernails. Therefore, my post-processing includes sanding and spraying semi-gloss paint to add some glossy effect.
However, after drying, the fingers show only a slight glossing effect. It is not as obvious as I thought. So I paint it again with blue spray.
Here is the final project. We can see that it is much obvious than using semi-gloss paint alone.
Here is the final cleaned-up working space.
Cost Estimation:
labor: $20 = 2 x $10/hr working as a TA at Rice
Rocktite: $ 1.2 = 0.15 lb x $8/lb
Alginate: $ 1.6= 1.5 oz x $50/3lb
Total = $22.8
