Rock Out✌️

This was comparatively a very simple assignment to complete. I first began by making my mold by weighing out the alginate and pressing my index and middle fingers in for 15 minutes to ensure that the mixture had solidified. Next, I prepared the Rockite mixture, using a little less than the recommended amount of water and a few drops of pink acrylic paint to see if I could achieve a more cohesive pink color, as the paint did not seem to blend well with finer details from what I had seen.

I left the mold to dry over the weekend and then carefully demolded it. The details were great, and there were no air bubbles, as I made sure to tap it on the table several times before leaving it to dry. I have long nails, and unfortunately, one of them chipped on the cast finger. Since I am no stranger to filing nails, I used wire clippers to get an even cut of the nail and then sanded it down, along with some rough sanding along the base of the object. I then rinsed off any residue or chalkiness that may have been on the fingers and left them to dry.

Two days later, I returned to put the finishing touches on. I used a matte clear coat to spray the fingers, as I did not want the spray paint to hide the chalky pink color. The clear coat seemed to seep into the cast, but after a few layers, it did leave a smooth matte finish.

I don’t think the cost to make this would be very much.
