In this project, I CNCed an emoji that is very popular on Chinese Reddit. It is a funny face. This is my first time using a CNC machine, and to be honest, I am quite panicked after I went through the documents and tutorial. However, it turned out that although it is complicated to use Shapeoko, it is pretty easy to use. Here is the design of the fun face.
I locked the wood on the CNC machine this way so that I can still zero it on the bottom left angle.
Here is the face it cut. I cut it with the eyes at 0.3 inch, and with the eyeball at 0.125 inch. There are still a bit of wood that the machine didn’t go through, so I used the scroll saw to cut it though with some relief cuts.
After that, I sanded the whole face
Next, since usually the emoji are yellow, I color-spray them.
Next, I sand the wood stick to use it as a pen to color the face with resin.

Finally, since the resin are not flat enough, I use a pipette to drop resin to make it flat.
