For my impossible 3D printed object, I decided to do an incredibly simple impossible object- two interlocking rings with no seams in either ring. I used the Dimension SST 678 in the wet lab to print my first ring. The advantage to this ring was that to remove the computer generated supports, all I had to do was drop the piece in the Lye bath which dissolved all the supports for me! The piece came out very nice, and didn’t require any post processing to be presentable, which is another advantage.
For my second piece, I printed using the makerbot in the makerbar. This was really easy and I didn’t have any issues, and I liked the pink filament. I decided to use FDM due to it’s ready availability and accuracy for my project.
Once the pink ring was done, I sanded off some bits to make it smoother and a nicer finished product. Here you can see both rings pictured together! Overall, the cost for these was rather low, with the small scale and low time, I estimate that all together it would require $40 for labor, and $20 for the prints- so a relatively cheap $60! But now I have to sell it for 25 cents….
