Shifan Liu’s Personal ENGI Space

Hello everyone! My name is Shifan Liu. I am a sophomore from Duncan and I am currently majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I love everything with electricity from colorful light strips to high-end electrical machines. I am also a huge fan of FPS games, music, and billiards. I am currently playing in the billiards team at Duncan.

There are actually two things that I am proud of making. The most recent one is definitely the UltraVisor me and my team made in the FWIS 188 course. Our team intended to design a prototype modeled after the UltraVisor-C, an existing prototype and face shield that is over 99% effective against viruses. It used UV-C light to inactivate the virus thus bringing clean air for users to breathe. However, the missing component of the UltraVisor-C (ability to sanitize outgoing air) posed a safety concern for medical professionals who wish to not infect patients and other staff. The overall purpose of the UltraVisor-C was to improve upon the original UVisor to sanitize the exhaled air.

The second one was a project I created called “Cosporter“, which is a wearable smart device that detects and corrects human posture. It uses three-axis accelerometer to collect and analyze data thus giving back results on an LED screen.

The thing that I would like to make in the far future would be a fully automatic smart home that would completely realize the dream of internet of everything. Instead of Google or Alexa, I also wanted to create my own virtual assistant (too ambitious I know).

Finally, there are so many things and skills I want to learn in this course. The skill to operate a sewing machine, the ability to create a 3D sketch using softwares like Solidworks, the opportunity to access high-end machines like laser cutters, etc. Most importantly, I wish to develop my practical skills and creatvity to a higher level. Looking forward to the ENGI 210 class!
