3D Printing

This process was fairly straightforward. I went to thingiverse and found a cool CAD model that I wanted to print. I chose a rabbit as I have a deep interest in rabbits and wanted to print something that I like. I then scaled the file to fit in a 46 mm x 55 mm x 7 mm box. This lead to the following FDM prints:

I also printed a SLA print. This print worked well but the joints didn’t move. I had to break off the ears to fit the bunny in the capsule. Here is the picture before:

Overall, this project was interesting and easy to approach. The SLA print was disappointing as it wasn’t able to bend and it took around two hours to print. The other prints took around forty minutes and were very easy to replicate. The cost break down is as follows:

Labor ~3 hours of active work (many hours of printing) => $45

Materials ~$5

Overall, without including the cost of the 3D printers, the cost is around $50. Including the 3D printers, the cost was $4550.
