The fingers:
So this project took me 4 tries. The first one that we did in class worked well but I didn’t put the screw deep enough for it to set into the mold.
For the second one I used a 10:40 (1:4) g ratio of alginate to water and the plaster 1:1 as suggested by the slip on the ENGI 210 table. The mold turned out great but the cast of the finger was still pretty wet after 2 days of letting it dry. And disintegrated upon trying to remove it.
For the final 2, I decided to cast two of my fingers at the same time. I casted using a 2:1 plaster to water ratio as suggested by the hw doc. This dried in a very short time window while I was still smoothing out the plaster. These where my final pieces. I cut out the alginate to avoid cracking them.
I then spray painted them using masking tape, 2 shades of red paint, and gold for the nails.
