The aim of this project was to mold and cast 2 of my very own fingers.
We did the first part of this in class and started by mixing water and alginate to create a slimy mold that hardened.
I had to redo this part because I waited too long after mixing the water and alginate. The mixture was more watery than I expected, like the consistency of pancake mix.
Then after putting my fingers in there and waiting for a few minutes, I poured plaster and taped the reverse of some screws.
After waiting a day, this was the result, pretty cool. I then spray painted both fingers with a couple layers of gray primer followed by white + khaki spray paint to make the fingers look more realistic.
I painted the nails first then the rest of the fingers after covering the nails with masking tape .Unfortunately the nozzle on the khaki spray paint can was jammed a bit and came out in droplets which made the coat not as even as I had hoped.
Overall fun assignment! Not sure if I’ll be using these at my house though (they are a bit creepy).
