My name is Iñigo Pérez, and I am one of the few Spanish students at Rice. I am a freshmen studying mechanical engineering, and doing the minor in engineering design. I am also part of the Rice Flight club, so eventhough I live in Brown College, the OEDK is my second home right now.
My first real contact with engineerign happened last semester when I took Engi120, and I am really proud of the project my group and I made. Our task was to design a water heating and control system in order to simulate marine heat waves, for an experiment conducted by a bioengineering proffesor at Rice. At first I did not think that we could build something that he could actually use for his experiment, but after a lot of work, we managed to design a functional and really accurate system. In fact, eventhough the Engi120 course is already over, my team and I are planning on keep working on the project in order to increase the quality of it so that our client can use it to start with his experiment in the near future.

Something I would like to make in the future is my own app. I don’t know yet for what, but I think it would be a really good skill to learn to be able to create high quality mobile apps. Apps can be used for anything so this way, whenever I have an idea I can put it into an app and make it work.
In Engi120 I hope to learn how to build functional products by combining different skills. With this I mean that I would like to be able to master the use of the different machines we are going to learn how to use, so that whenever I want to build something, I know what I have to do and I can create high quality functional products. For instance, for the Rice Flight club I am in, many times we need to build unique components for the airplanes, so the skills I will develop in this class will probably help me know how to properly build them.
