We began working on our crate by planning the process and our design. We used the bandsaw to cut divots in two of our wood pieces for handles. We had to recut a few of our wood pieces due to significant issues using the circular saw.
After we had finished planning and cutting our wood, we planed and routed all of the pieces. When we routed the handle pieces, we raised the routing bit slightly to add a ledge around the handles, creating a different look on those pieces.
As we were assembling the box, we encountered some slow downs because we only had one charged battery. We used multiple clamps to make sure our wood was correctly aligned. After assembling the layers of the box, we used the planar on the corners to create a smoother transition between the pieces of wood.
After assembling the box, we came across a place where the wood was splitting and used wood glue to fix the problem.
After our crate was completely assembled, we sanded the whole box with the orbital sander.
We wanted to finish our box using Rice colored spray paint. We decided to spray paint the box blue and then create vinyl stencils to add designs on the crate. We used the vinyl machine to print a few star stencils and added some silver stars to our blue crate. We also spray painted the bottom lavender for a fun touch! Finally, we used the nail gun to secure our name plates to the crate.
