It’s crazy how they make Cheetos colored paint.
The molding assignment was something I had no idea what to expect. We mixed alginate with water by weight somehow rather than by volume, which was strange but it worked out well. The mold was doughy and got a really weird texture to it, and I was caught off guard by how sticky it felt when I initially put my finger in it.
After it somewhat solidified, I had a hard time pulling my finger out because the seal was a bit tight and I didn’t want to deform the mold. We mixed rockite with water also by weight, and poured the liquid-y cement into the finger hole.
I was pretty busy after the initial pouring, so I didn’t check up on it until a few days later. After pulling out the first finger, the alginate mold still have a good consistency to it, so I mixed another rockite solution and made another finger from the same mold.
The second finger was in slightly worse shape than the first, partially because some of the alginate came off with the first finger. Nonetheless, with some sanding the fingers both looked smooth and ready for painting. Side note, I really thought the finalized finger would be more, sturdy. I used a medium grit sandpaper and it felt and looked like I’m sanding a piece of chalk.
Waiting for paint to dry was as fun as it sounded.
There’s no pictures of a clean worktable because almost no work was done on any table.
