We made a lion! It was very exciting!
For the CNC unit Geetanjali, Paul and I got together and made a lion. We wanted to make a train, but some tricky black magic via the noun project prevented us from doing so. Details will be shared about this during class. Our second choice was the lion we have with us today. We imported the SVG file from The Noun Project to illustrator and drew a border around it. We then imported this new SVG file to a program called Easel so that we could specify how it would be machined and then generate the G-code. We liked Easel better than MakerCam because it was very intuitive and showed what your part would like as you were making changes. After generating the g-code we got the CNC mill all set up and went to work. We cut our part out of wood (the wood we initially cut with a jig saw). It took about an hour to CNC mill because it was a larger piece and an 1/8″ deep. After milling the piece we sanded it and cut the excess wood off using a table saw (shoutout to Nathan for teaching us that). We then rubbed linseed oil on the lion to give it more contrast.
