So this past week we learned how to use the laser cutter and how to post-process metal.
Danielle and I first loaded our Texas design into the Torchmate software, grounded our metal, lined up the sighs, and let the machine do it’s thing.
Once we had our raw Texas, with all the lovely slag, we began post processing:
First we grinded off the slag with a dremel tool and the red stone tip
The we tried to sand down the sides with normal sandpaper, but that was taking too long so we switched to using the dremel with a sandpaper tip, you can see that the direction you sand it in is important, when I switched from vertical to horizontal there was an obvious striation difference between the two.
Lastly I just sprayed it with a white gloss and then let it dry. The gloss itself didn’t dry quite even but did a nice job finishing up the piece.
