Hi my name is Josie Garza. I am a senior studying computer science. On campus I am involved in CSters the women in computer science club and Rice Apps where we build relevant digital solutions for social good. I also really want to write for the Thresher this semester. I am excited about user driven technology and exploring ways tech can be used for social justice. Something that I made that I was proud of was the blue oyster mushrooms which I grew this summer. I liked watching the culture grow from mycelium in agar plates and then transferring it to a larger propagation container and feeding it the right nutrients and then putting it in the right conditions for fruiting. One thing that I would like to make in the future is a automatic watering system for plants that monitors conditions like soil PH and humidity. In ENGI 210 I am excited to learn about the plasma cutter!
