This project I learned about a variety of 3d printing techniques and applied 2 of them to create otherwise impossible objects. I decided to make 5 of these articulated slugs.
I made 3 PLA models with the Prusa. I used 3dprinterOS to resize the slugs to 80% of it original size, and sliced the file with a layer height of .15mm, a wall thickness of 1mm, and an infill density of 15%. Due to the flat bottom and no overhangs, I did not have to use any supports for this, and just used a skirt.
The print came out very clean, and I had to do little clean up except cleaning up bridging between the antennae of the slugs.
I then made 2 resin models with the Form 3. I remade the file in PreForm, but I forgot to resize it, so these 2 are larger than my PLA models. Luckily, I can still get it to fit in the capsules. The first time I made it without any supports, so I had a very hard time removing it from the build base, and it actually broke so I had to reprint it. After washing and curing the models for 15 minutes each, I removed the supports and lightly sanded the bottom.
Cost Estimate:
PLA Filament: $0.04 per 2.14g(1 model) = $0.12
Resin: $149.00 per liter ~ 15 ml = $2.24
Labor – Design: $18 per hour ~ 1 hour = $18
Total = $20.36
