Nick’s Hello to ENGI 210

a. Who are you and what activities are you engaged in at Rice?
My name is Nicholas Lester. I am from Oakland, CA. I play on the Rice club Ultimate team, Cloud 9. Last semester I was loosely involved with Rice Eclipse, and this semester I hope to be much more involved.
b.What is one thing that you have made that you are proud of?
I am very proud of my wheelchair vertical transfer device from ENGI 120. The device raises a wheelchair to the height of the seat of a car so that caregivers can transfer their patients without throwing out their backs. The device uses a scissor lift powered by a pump to easily lift at least 180 pounds.
c. What is one thing that you want to make (this semester or in the future)?
I really want to learn how to 3D print! I’ve never had any experience with 3D printing, but it seems really cool.
d. What is one thing that you hope to learn in ENGI 210?
I hope to learn how to use the various fun OEDK tools well. That’s a boring and vague answer, but I don’t really have anything better right now.
