Will Jones’ Unique Blog Post

a. I am Will Jones, a MECH senior at Lovett college who is originally from Nashville. At Rice, I am heavily involved in a number of different things, including Chi Alpha and EWB. This semester I am also a senior interviewer for the office of Admissions.

b. One thing I have made that I am quite proud of was the Beef Wellington mentioned in class. At the beginning of the summer I was able to make my first perfect one (using my new sous vide device) and I was quite satisfied by the way it came out. From a more relevant perspective, one thing (things) I am proud of making is a series of cast metal hearts of different metals (Cu, brass, Pb, and Al) even though they’re pretty lumpy. If I had more time, I would love to try some new casting techniques.

Here is a really low quality picture of it 🙂

c.  This semester, I really want to make one of those sweet laser cut plywood moving dealios that are stacked up on the back wall of the OEDK. I’ve been seeing them for a few years now, and I would love to crank out one of my own.

d. Well, all my 3D printing experience has been with low end extruded abs and pla printers, along with free programs like Slic3r and Pronterface. I would love the chance to get to explore some better slicing programs and higher end printers that can presumably lay down some more fine layer heights.
